My research interests are on the interrelationships (complementarities and conflicts) of the human development and nature conservation. My study of social-ecological system approach brings together the over two decades of understanding the various aspects of water and waterbodies wisdoms and worries with respect to urban planning, design, governance, management and sustainability. The interest on the ‘collective action’ or in other words, ‘governance’ by-for-of the people is at the core of this. Water’s connective capacity drives my aspiration to balance the applied and theoretical sciences for an improved understanding of the society as a continuum. The fact that research is involved in every initiative conceived in practice and teaching, the research experience becomes more integrated with instrumental and intrinsic values. Besides, engaging in multi-trans-disciplinary activities is fun and my forte.
